Gloomy Sunday는 2명의 헝가리 사람에 의해 1933년에 만들어졌다.
Rezso Seress(피아니스트)와 Laszlo Javor(시인).
이 노래는 1936년까지 주의를 끌지 않다가
노래로 인해 자살자들이 속출한다 하여 금지되었다.
이후 음악인들은 헝가리의 자살 노래라 하여
번역하고 녹음해서 청중에게 들려 주었고.

Billie Holiday 판은,어두운 일요일의

가장 인기가 있는 영어 판이었다고 한다.

역사상 가장 충격적인 콘서트
1936년 4월 30일. 프랑스 파리, 세계적인 레이 벤츄라 오케스트라 콘서트.
'글루미 썬데이'를 연주하던 단원들은, 드럼 연주자의 권총 자살로 시작,
연주가 끝난 후 한 사람도 살아 남아 있지 않았다.

수백명을 자살하게 한 미스테리의 노래
레코드로 발매된 당시 8주만에 헝가리에서만 이 노래를 듣고 187명이 자살했다.
뉴욕 타임즈는 '수백 명을 자살하게 한 노래'라는 헤드라인으로 특집기사를 실었다.
'글루미 썬데이 클럽' 이 우후죽순처럼 생겨났다.
코코 샤넬은 이 노래에서 영감을 얻어
'피치 블랙 - 죽음의 화장품'을 출시했다.

비운의 천재 작곡자, 레조 세레스
연인을 잃은 아픔으로 이 곡을 작곡하지만 1968년 겨울,그도 역시
이 노래를 들으며 고층빌딩에서 몸을 던졌다.
