10대 이전의 남,녀 아이들이 원을 만들어 노는 것은 세계 여러 곳에 있다. [There's a Brown Girl in the Ring] 이노래는 동(東) 카리브의 놀이 노래인데 어른의 구애 행동의 전단계 쯤으로 생각되는 어린이들의 놀이로 아이들이 손을 맞잡고 원을 만들고 그러고는 한 여자아이가 원 한 가운데로 들어가서 노래에 맞추어 깡충거리기 시작하고 그러면 아이들이 [Show Me Your Motion(네 춤을 보여줘)] 라고 말한다. 그러면 그 여자 아이는 자기가 제일 좋아하는 춤을 춘다. 다음에는 아이들이 [Show Me Your Partner(네 짝을 보여줘)]라고 말하면 한 친구를 지적하여 함께 원으로 들어간다. [Brown Girl(or Boy)]라고 말하는 것은 카리비안 사람들의 피부 색깔을 말하는 것인데 자존심을 높이기 위한 표현이라고 한다.

1976년 독일에서 결성된 댄스 그룹 Boney M은 그들의 데뷔 앨범  'Take The Heat Off Me'에서Daddy Cool을 히트시키면서 그들의 이름을 알리기 시작했으며Sunny, Rivers of Babylon, Brown Girl in The Ring, Painter Man 등을 히트시켰다.

70년대 말, 담배연기 자욱한 음악다방에서 시간을 보낼 때 보니 엠의 곡 하나는 늘 흘러 나왔을 정도로 이들의 인기는 대단했었다. 

비지스와 함께 디스코 열풍을 일으켰던 보니 엠,디스코 열기의 소멸과 함께 그들도 사람들의 관심에서 멀어져갔다.
